Below is a list of questions and responses that we commonly receive at the funeral home. We will continue to include any new questions in this section that we feel would be helpful to others.
If you have a question that has not been covered in this site we would like to hear from you. You may use the "Ask the Director" section of our site to forward your question or comments to us.
If you would prefer to call us on the telephone, our staff would be pleased to provide an answer to any funeral related matter you may have. If we do not have the answer immediately, we will find it for you and contact you the minute the information is in our hands.
| Question #1 | Will I have to deal with a local funeral home for cremation? |
| Answer: | No, we are a licensed Funeral Home, staffed with licensed Funeral directors 24 hrs. a day 7 days a week. Currently we are the only crematorium in the Annapolis Valley. |
| Question #2 | What about legal papers needed for cremation? |
| Answer: | We will look after Obtaining and issuing all legal documentation. |
| Question #3 | Do I need to purchase a casket or have embalming to be cremated? |
| Answer: | We provide a basic cremation container. You do have an option to select a different cremation casket. Our staff can discuss the options available. Embalming is not necessary for cremation, however if cremation is delayed for any reason beyond 72 hours than embalming is necessary. |
| Question #4 | What about an obituary for the local paper? |
| Answer: | We will look after writing the obituary for you or you may place it in the Newspaper yourself. The choice is yours. We do not charge or editing, however the newspaper may have charges for publication. |
| Question #5 | May I pay now for a cremation service? |
| Answer: | Yes, we offer pre-arrangements for you if you choose to make your arrangement now for services later on. Your money is deposited in a trust account with terms laid out by the department of Consumer Affairs, It is safe, insured and can be taken out or transferred by you at anytime. The interest it accumulates will off set any inflation charges. We also have a program available for payment plans and insured funeral coverage. |
| Question #6 | Will there be any hidden cost in my pre-arrangement? |
| Answer: | No, the price you pay today is the price for tomorrow. The only other disbursements that you may want to consider, not listed here would be opening and closing the graveside, flowers, honorariums for minister and choir etc. Our staff can help you with ensuring your arrangements look after all your needs. |
| Question #7 | Will a Funeral Director be present at my service? |
| Answer: | Yes all our Memorial Services, Graveside Services have a Funeral Director in attendance. Or if you wish, you may do the service with the help of your Clergy. The choice again is yours. |
| Question #8 | Is there any monies that my family may be entitled to after my death? |
| Answer: | Yes, you may be in titled to a death benefit through Canada Pension Plan, Last Post Fund or many other organizations; please feel free to discuss this with you Funeral Director. |
| Question #9 | Do I have to choose an urn or casket from the funeral home? |
| Answer: | There are many choices available through our funeral home and we have worked very hard to keep our prices below our competitors. Having said this, you definitely may choose your casket or urn from another source. Our cremation services have an urn included, you can use your own urn, or have one made, it is up to you. We also carry specialty urns that you may want to choose from (there is an additional cost for these. We place all cremated remains in a doubled bagged container and in a Urn of your choice from our selections. |
| Question #10 | Where can my service be held? |
| Answer: | It can be held at your local church, Hall, Community Hall or favorite site or place, there is not limit to where or when your service can be held. We have facilities in Berwick, Kentville, Wolfville, New Ross and Port Williams where visiting hours, receptions and services can be held. We will work with you to choose that special place. We have the ability to broadcast the funeral service through the internet to alternate locations (halls, churches etc), or friends and family can tune in anywhere in the world on their computer. This service allows for unlimited numbers of people to attend the service "live" and we publish the memorial program on our website so those who join from away can follow along with the service. |
